At the August 17th Wednesday morning Holmen Area Rotary meeting we had the pleasure of hearing from Noel Furger, Director of Development for the Father Joseph Walijewski Legacy Guild and Casa Hogar Juan Pablo II Orphanage. Casa Hogar Orphanage in Peru is a project of the La Crosse Diocese and is a unique operation. The orphanage is set up into 'family' units with 4 groups of 8 girls and 4 groups of 8 boys, each headed up by a 'mother' and 'father' teacher. These 64 children from the poorest parts of Peru have been given a brighter future as they learn and experience a relatively stable childhood. Noel updated the club on recent improvements and future challenges at the orphanage. A majority being repairs and capital improvements due to earthquakes in this part of the world. The club has a connection to the orphanage due to the multiple water projects done in Peru. Club member Justin Bodin has made it his mission to help the orphanage by creating bracelets and artwork that are auctioned off at the club's annual Service Auction. This years' Service Auction netted $4203 for Casa Hogar.
